At Interpath Services, we pride ourselves on the expertise of our Sales Team in helping our customers find the best solutions for their organisations. As our newest Interpath team member, Henry Ye joined the company in August of 2024 and has been helping his clients streamline processes and manage stock since. What is your career background that makes you so suited to being an Interpath specialist?
I have more than 10 years of research experience in universities, including 5 years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher. My roles during this time employed a range of experimental techniques, specialising in areas such as genetics, genomics and transcriptomics, leading to a strong familiarity with the industry and confidence that I can help my clients.
I've also used a lot of the products that Interpath distributes during my career as a researcher, and with more than 7 years of sales experience in molecular research products, I found myself to be a perfect fit for the role.
Tell us about your role with Interpath? What is your main area of expertise?
In my role, I take care of accounts in Victoria and Tasmania. I’m especially experienced in plastic consumables that are used in areas of tissue culture, microbiology and liquid handling. Because of my background in research, I also understand what purchasers and clients need for their own work and will recommend suitable products.
What do you like about your role and what most surprised you?
Over the past 6 months, I've found that I particularly enjoy meeting new customers and learn about their work. Despite being a large business working nationally, I was surprised by how friendly and helpful my colleagues were (and continue to be).
What are some of the challenges you've identified in the market and what are your main priorities for the year?
With the increased usage of online portals and tenders, and the inherent convenience that those processes allow, I see a trend towards commoditising our products.
My main priority for the year is to effectively communicate the unique features and benefits of the service we provide to our customers.
What do you expect the big industry trends to be for the year?
Analysis of buying trends using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The rise of AI is being seen across all industries, but I'm most excited to see about what it does to purchasing. In an era of increased online commoditization, Interpath remains dedicated to highlighting the distinct advantages our services provide. As trends shift towards AI-driven purchasing analysis, we stand ready to support researchers navigating funding challenges.
What’s the biggest challenge facing the customers in the industry?
I think for any researcher it will be the scarcity of government funding for research.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned over the past 12-18 months?
Perseverance is key to accomplish anything.
